The Famous VW Team Club car

Since the early 2000's we have  had a nice Volkswagen Golf MK2 for general use. Anyone who had the car in project status was able to use the club car to get around. When planning for the VW Mania 2003 VAG Meeting we decided to do something special and with that idea a new tradition started. We've layed out the changes over the years here in a little timeline

The Beer Car - 2003

It all started with the Beer Car in 2003. We wanted to do something special for VW Mania and came up with this. So we started saving bottle caps for a couple of months and got the local pub to sponsor us some extra accessories. When we had all items we got to work. After days of gluing and screwing we covered the whole car in bottle caps. Right on time for the big meeting in the summer, VW Mania in Belgium.

The 'A-Team' VW Team Car - 2004

For the 2004 season we wanted something else. It took  even more time removing all bottle caps but we did it. For some parts, like the fenders, new pieces were installed. Once the car was stripped of all caps we painted it black. We thought of the 'A-Team' van and replicated the style on the Golf. This included a custom welded ridiculous spoiler on the back. Obviously it again got a lot of attention and we drove it for the 2004 season, with the VW Mania as the biggest event.

The Beach Car - 2005

Since the car looked really ridiculous and you need to top that we decided to change again for the year after. So in this case we smeared glue all over the body and put sand on it. After that some shelves completed the beach look for driving. At the events in the summer whole was topped up by adding an inflatable swimming pool with water and inflatable palm trees. This is also the first year we see the 5 spoke aluminum rims on it.

The Taxi - 2007

After the beach we needed to change again and this is probably the most famous design we made of the Golf. We painted it yellow and added the distinct NYC Taxi striping on the side. On the roof we placed an illuminated taxi sign which we got from a local taxi company. When is a bit unclear but at some point we were stopped by some silly cops making a problem out of the taxi sign so to prevent future issues we taped the sign when not at an event. In this shape the car remained for some years. It is not entirely clear when the design was changed to the current livery.

"Pokal Jäger" - 2009

The last change came somewhere in the 2009 season. The exact timing is unknown, since we see the Taxi in the pictures of the VW Speed Midwintermeet but on our own event in the summer, we see the Pokal Jäger. The idea came from visiting German meetings and some guys called their car Pokal Jäger, which basically means Prize Hunter. Of course it was meant in a funny way and we spun the 'Jäger" part by adding a gigantic Jägermeister logo on the hood. The lighted taxi sign stayed on top as a reminder it was once the famous VW Team Club Taxi. This is the last design change and to date the car stayed the same. Unfortunately (December 2021) some dude smashed his beamer in the back of the car. It remains to be seen if it will be a write off or it will be fixable. Over the about 20 years this car has been with us, it has seen so much abuse. This is why we think the Volkswagen Golf MK2 is the best model VW ever put to the market. If it can survive all that and pass the yearly technical check (with flying colors) it would be a shame if it will be a write off after this year. Lets hope we can save it and maybe, at some point it will get a new shape again.
